Parents TV Council Wants You To Boycott 90210
September 8, 2008
The Parents Television Council (PTC) has issued a statement urging viewers to boycott the new 90210 because of it’s racy premiere episode.
“The CW Network has openly, wantonly and eagerly violated every business tenet of the broadcast industry,” PTC president Tim Winter wrote.
“They shocked viewers during the family hour by depicting high school children engaged in oral sex in their car. It’s such a sucker punch to viewers and a lot of families. No one tuned in to 90210 thinking, ‘Hey, maybe I will get to see (oral sex).’”
Here is the scene the PTC is referring to:
The CW has issued a statement in response, defending the scene “was screened in advance of broadcast through the customary advertiser screening service.”
I received a lot of comments from parents saying they thought the premiere episode was too racy for their teenaged kids, I recall not being allowed to watch the original Beverly Hills 90210 at first - but my mom eventually gave in.

Same here, my parents didn’t even want me watching the original 90210, in the later years, they started caring a little less since I was a teenager anyway and there’s nothing I didn’t already know that I would find out from a TV show.
The cast already talked about that scene in previous interviews before the show premiered, they gave numerous warnings that this would be an edgier 90210, so people really shouldn’t be acting so shocked and self righteous.
